Was able to get into a day-before opening – screening of ‘Labor Day’ tonight. First off, let me tell you that I am one of those people that sometimes roots for the bad-guys and there have been movies where for crimeny sakes, I just want them to WIN! Not because they’ve done something awful & I want to celebrate that, but sometimes just because it would change it up from the good guy ALWAYS winning ZZZzzzzzzzz. There was a Robert Redford movie called ‘The Hot Rock’ and it was the 1st movie I ever remember seeing that they actually got away with it and it was BRILLIANT!! Well, after telling you all that, it’s kinda what I wanted here. This is a really good movie and I liked it quite a bit. It’s very well done as this could have gone horribly bad with the wrong actor but Josh Brolin gives a good enough performance that even though you know why he was in jail and escaped – you completely start to sympathize and root for him to come out of this all well & good!!… I seriously am ready to start writing a prisoner after seeing this! ha! okay..well not really, because you know my convict would never be Josh Brolin good! hahahahaha I would get the crazy one!
In the meantime, this is an extremely touching movie all around, and not just the story-line of where Frank ~ aka the escaped convict (Josh Brolin) comes into the lives of Adele (Kate Winslet) & Henry (Gattlin Griffith), but the entire back storyline is also very well put in with some flashbacks & present time life reality. It’s a true love story, but not the sappy kind, the kind with a kick to it and I like when it can go really wrong and then does, but comes back with a punch. Don’t want to give away too much of the plotline because you all really need to go see this movie for yourselves.. A little show stealer here to watch for is Brighid Fleming as ‘Eleanor’ who along with Gattlin Griffith give very good performances for young actors and hope to see them both become successes in their respective careers.
P.S. – They gave us all a pie dish at the end with a recipe for peach pie included ~ you will understand how cute this is when you see the movie!! 😀
